Fried Green Tomatoes Recipe


  • 4 large green tomatoes, sliced (about 800 grams)
  • 150 grams all-purpose flour
  • 100 grams cornmeal
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 120 ml buttermilk
  • 5 grams salt
  • 3 grams black pepper
  • 2 grams paprika
  • 1 gram garlic powder
  • 500 ml vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: 30 ml hot sauce for extra kick


1. In a shallow bowl, mix together flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.

2. In another bowl, whisk together beaten eggs and buttermilk. Add hot sauce if desired.

3. Dip each tomato slice first in the egg mixture, then dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coat.

4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

5. Fry the coated tomato slices in batches, for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden and crispy.

6. Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
